Life is a series of habits we create for ourselves. If we find ourselves stuck in unserving patterns, it's essential to create anew and change our habits. Many people, especially at the start of a new year, make big resolutions or goals. However, future goals often delay our sense of accomplishment.
A better approach is to embrace the Reiki principle of "Just for Today," a concept also used in aiding addiction recovery. This principle can apply to all aspects of life: Just for today, I will eat healthier. Just for today, I will work out. Just for today, I will focus on my spiritual development. Just for today, I will be kinder to myself and others.
Focusing on one day at a time brings us into the present moment. The past is unchangeable, and the future is yet to be experienced. While it's good to set life goals that we practice daily to enhance our well-being, short-lived goals can lead to an endless pursuit of more. We often live life constantly chasing after the next accomplishment. By investing in today, we slow down the chase, calm our minds, and truly honor each day.
Making daily choices and focusing on each individual day will take us far. Control what's right in front of you, be disciplined with the here and now, and experience every moment.
This also applies to food choices: Just for today, I will feed my body the nutrition it needs. No worries about others' opinions on what is healthier. Focus on what your body specifically needs and how you wish to nourish it.
Daily progress leads to lifelong gains. Choose to make progress each day.
